PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Beyond my education and training, my clinical practice is informed by my professional experience as an Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where I held a joint appointment in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics and at the Young Adult and Family Center in the Department of Psychiatry. At UCSF, I served as Clinical Coordinator (2007-2009) and Associate Director (2009-2012) of the UCSF Eating Disorders Program, and also as Consulting Psychologist (2004-2012) for the UCSF Pediatric Obesity Clinic. From 2012-2014, I held clinical, research, teaching/supervision, and program development responsibilities at the Center for the Treatment of Eating Disorders at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of MN.

As a clinician-researcher, the overall theme of my clinical research has been the study of parents’ role in the development of children’s health behaviors, with the goal of improving the health of youth in key areas of health risk. My research has spanned parents’ socialization of children’s eating behaviors, parent-adolescent communication about sex and dating, and parent-child transfer of responsibility for management of chronic illness. I have also contributed to research on treatment outcomes in adolescents diagnosed with eating disorders.

I have presented papers at regional, national, and international conferences and have published my research in major peer-reviewed journals. I am a regular reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals including Pediatrics, Journal of Developmental and Behavior Pediatrics, Journal of Early Adolescence, Appetite, and Journal of the American Dietetic Association. I am also a member of the Society of Pediatric Psychology (Division 54, American Psychological Association), the Society of Clinical Child Psychology (Div 53, APA), and the Academy of Eating Disorders.
